wouldn't really be of much help, I'm pretty much rewriting the whole system to work with influxdb v2 so it's not like I'm creating a solution for the current implementation

No, there's literal game changing things that a hook wouldn't help with, quite a few core systems that are completely rewritten

Technically there's plenty of things a hook can't do. For one, it can't create new hooks inside the core.
