i was noodling what item scaling might look like for instances that are scaled up with autobalance. what would be a good approach? if i make new items in `item_template` that are scaled versions of the existing loot, that seems like it would be fairly complicated to get everything setup correctly, and would have icon issues if the client isn't patched or item attributes are enforced.

what about making new on-the-fly permanent enchants? make the item get a permanent enchant that buffs it as though it was a higher-ilvl item. would need to figure out what the heck "balanced" scaling of stats look like, but i figure there's probably some math out there that lays out the item budget and how points are allocated.

is there another way to do it that i'm not thinking of? or anything obviously wrong above?

there's likely client patching required for these enchants as well unless you are looking at just enchanting the item with already existing enchants

also you have to consider the limited enchantment slots that it occupies

hrm. I was thinking of using the permanent enchant slot like "of the monkey" that can create what seems to be multiple stats without using up normal enchant slots, but I am admittedly uneducated about exactly how that works. where can I see what all the built-in permanent enchants are?

you can do that, but the stats won't be visible on the item

for instance, when you mouse over an item there is metadata that is fetched from the server and is stored in the client cache
