Gotcha, that makes sense. Thanks for the answer, I'm still veeeerrry green to the codebase. Just exploring so far. I'm trying new things to understand how it's structured right now, I'd like to be knowledgeable enough to get down to the communication layer stuff, any advice on things to do/try/"exercises" to get more familiar with AC?

As of right now. Everything is in the authnet (which it needs to be bnet as that came in 3.0.3) and worldserver.

U can run those on seperate machines. But the idea of everything be literally conslidated into those two binaries should give you a idea from there

u can read old discussions in discord especially modding discord there is lot of hidden gems although rarely about specifically auth/world and sharding.....and other than that either pay some1 to teach u (like i do) or just dig into code urself

I mean so far the furthest i seen done outside of moving to cata, i seen bnet implemented and a wip voice server with team speak dependencies being used but that is a very damming thing to have running due to resource consumption

right that makes sense that there's those two binaries and mysql is the underlying datastore. I'd imagine it'd be way out of scope of a open source project to look into world sharding, i just think it be a fun challenge to attack. i was so surprised on the installation that im running one binary for the whole shebang and just thinking about popular PS with their populations using AC. seems impressive

its not that hard its just that nobody capable of doing it ever made it publicly

Who ever told you it isnt hard for a project that required reverse engineering to begin just to barely get a authorization and world server working is literally smoling crack rocks
