Hah. I did in fact install mine from the DVD I have and downloaded and applied all the updates. It's a guaranteed clean copy of the game, and obviously I never have to do it again anyway.

I have it heavily compressed on two different backup drives, I'm not worried.

One of those drives I only plug in when I wanna copy everything from the main one and it remains unplugged otherwise. Not sure how that rot would happen.
