no, the error doesnt exist in your code or SQL. The error is in the CI, which never runs the SQL file. However if it did, it would fail there too.
Why? Because MySQL 8 is smart enough that you can assign vars with =, but the CI and many other SQL servers requires :=

He did explain it very well. Just because it doesn't fail for you, doesn't mean it won't fail on certain systems.

You have to make sure to support all available setups if you want it to be usable by everyone, pretty much.

or maybe I am old fashioned and it has been fixed on the majority of the SQL clients and servers. It honestly was a while ago I used variables myself
