I haven't been updating my core+modules but I'd like to start. What steps do people take to go about this in a "safe" way. I know the process itself to git pull and recompile, thats ez. How concerned do I need to be with ensuring version compatibility between core and every module I have installed, breaking changes, db changes, etc?

Yea I always make a backup of my azerothcore folder with modules and then attempt to do a build. If it fails I have the option to either attempt a manual fix or revert to the original. I suggest only updating a few at a time to be able to diagnose issues easier
