The character select screen doesn't have a set of items it displays for new characters. It uses what the character has equipped, even when first created.

Not true, for the initial character creation it uses a DBC, I wanna say CharStartOutfit.dbc

i probably have some mismatch between whats in charstartoutfit_dbc table and some mpq i think

hi, is there a way to have kind of special npc you can talk to ? like, an integrated language model or idk, so they act like player but also talk like player
