So when I compile - I need to compile the fork of AC that is located in C/users with the playerbots module in it, NOT the c/azerothcore

My suggestion is to remove the AC repo in your users and clear the folders you used original to clone (where you wanted it to be)

that's good, always be organized, you can also skip the step of manually downloading the playerbots module. That git commands you're running doing that for you.
