I think directing people to such a community script could alleviate lots of questions. But I guess it also allows people to install something they don't really get

It depends on what you mean "all in one". Debian-based distributions are easily handled by a bash script and can be done to support a lot (or most) of them. RedHat is a different story and are too much trouble to get going to be worth it.
