It would probably require a change to the server core but the client itself might not be able to use the change

Changes to the server won't directly affect your client. So you'll need to manually change the realmlist.wtf each time you want to play on another server. It's a bit wasteful on disk space but I just use 2 clients. One for my local server and 1 for the one I play online

Well i can play ChromieCraft for example, then change the wtf config to my realmlist, and be good, but there's no way to stop it from changing back? All good if not, cause this will probably be the only WOTLK I play, but just sucks that we can't do WoWdl anymore for these clients

I don't know the client super well but if there is changing back occuring when you don't want it is probably the cache folder applying old settings
