If the player is just moving forward, the client sends one packet, followed by a heartbeat packet after a second or so. Whenever the player changes direction, a new packet is sent.
As for batching — you're right, in AzerothCore, there is no such feature. But in general in WoW protocol, it's possible to compress several movement packets and send them as one compressed packet.

Cool, yeah in my hypothetical scenario I'm thinking of 100 players spamming A/D or running forward with RMB held, causing constant rotation changes. I probably shouldn't worry too much about optimizing this until it actually becomes a problem.
