i think the discussion i was following in the modding community forever ago on that had modified .exe files with all kinds of stuff allowed

I feel like I'm in over my head on this one. So, Spell Editor does have a mpq exporter. So, I used that to create a new patch-5.mpq file, dropped that into the client Data enDB folder with the rest of the patch.mpq files. Logged in, and the spells still aren't there. Tried dismissing the Felguard again, leveling up, summoning him back, and still no spells. I'm sure I'm doing something (probably multiple things wrong), but I'm not well versed enough in the ins and outs of what I'm actually doing to really have a good sense on how to make these changes. I'm afraid I'm going to break what is otherwise a really fun server.

if its in mpq form just put it in the clients Data folder, not any deeper

Just moved it to the Data folder, logged back in, dismissed the pet, resummoned him, and still no spells unfortunately:
