It appears to if you use a feature called funneling but I'm not currently using that. I don't believe I'm using proxy otherwise. I use tailscale to simulate a LAN so I can access my Ubuntu VM (that's running the server) when I'm not on my network.

I turned on proxy in the server at someone else's suggestion because my wow client was hanging on connecting beforehand

proxy protocol only helps identify the real IP address of a client when a proxy is involved. If you're experiencing connection issues to the server, the proxy protocol will not resolve them.

When using tailscale, it may be necessary to use the tailscale IP of the server in your realmlist instead of the LAN IP. I did not use tailscale with azerothcore, but it was similar when using a remote software.
