theoretically, could I play actual WoW on the internet and also have my private server? I'm guessing though every time I want to switch I'd have to go mess with code.

new update, if i git clone the wotlk for playerbot module, it works completely fine

There are client mods you can use for wotlk 3.3.5a clients to let you change the realmlist you connect to while the client is running
