Should I learn lua in the first place or use TypeScript? Seems like TS simplifies a lot of things and if I do not understand what is behind it (lua) troubleshooting would be harder.

You really don't want to trouble shoot the Lua generated by the tool. It's ... *Hard* to read.
I can't tell if learning Lua is beneficial for your usecase. But quite frankly, Lua is just english with extra steps.
