Think like this if it's something that bring utility or quality life improvements is probably an addon.
Changing the colour of your buttons in the login screen and/or adding hd models to your game those are modifications

Makes sense. I'll try to get it nailed down. As I said, for Stardew Valley the 'download, drag and drop' things are called Mods, which we would call Addons
