heya, I recognize that this might be a question outside of this server, but I don't know who else I would ask. I have azerothcore set up in a WSL instance, and its been working well, but recently I've gotten a ACE00046 error. I know that that means that I have to recompile to get the mysql library versions in sync again, but I don't know how mysql updated. I've been out of town and I haven't updated it manually, and I didn't think that that would happen automatically inside the ubuntu instance on WSL. I believe (though I can't currently check) that I do also have mysql on the windows machine that is running WSL, in case that would affect things.
Has anyone else run into this / know of settings that I should check when I'm next able to access the server?

Ubuntu by default will automatically update and it's something you'll have to disable if you don't want that to happen.

I don't understand why it does that in the server version of Ubuntu but it is what it is

This is because security of the system. Ubuntu by default install critical and security updates automatically. The package that makes this is unattended-updates.
Configure it with "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -plow unattended-upgrades" to not make any updates or lock the MySQL package in apt so that Ubuntu can't update them.
This can be read in the Ubuntu Documentation.

Put a package on hold:
echo "<package-name> hold" | sudo dpkg --set-selections
Remove the hold:
echo "<package-name> install" | sudo dpkg --set-selections
Display the status of all your packages:
dpkg --get-selections

Ubuntu does this because many people will not install any updates. This makes systems easily hackable and Ubuntu prevents this by installing security updates automatically.

Meh, I just add this to /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/20auto-upgrades and get on with my life without suffering from such things
