I want to increase the character limit in wow from 10 to 40. We have already found out that we need to edit the wow.exe to do this. Does anyone happen to know the name of the value that I need to change in the exe with a hex editor?

You probably can get a better answer in a modding forum or discord
And maybe less work. To develop i mean. It's to have a user page, where they see their chars. An active and a shelfed chars, active only shows up to 10 chars that would reflect on the client and the others one are associated to the account but don't show in the client until you place them in the active bin

People don't tend to share edits like that, and most people around here don't even get into client patching very much or at all. Most people here just cannot help you

I think the majority of patching happens in AC (by the people) it just small edits in the DBC. Like a new spell or a new item things like that
