So a new router fixed the issue with my DDNS / External IP not working... Never again will I trust an ISP supplied modem / router. Applied an unapplied settings / rebooted / factory reset - nothing.

That's wrong. It was added in WotLK and since then the only way to fight him is by using the dungeon finder.
