RelWithDebInfo would give you useable crash logs and a few other things but Release wouldn't give you any of that. The difference in startup time is negligible too so there's really no need to compile in Release.

If I followed Nirv’s guide using VM and Debian, how would I know if I’m compiling it in release or in RelWithDebInfo? I think I’ve linked my error and server logs before on here. I could try to generate another one when I get a chance

As a guess I'd say it's boot looping because of death knight and max level being set to 19. Setting expansion to 0 (or 1) **might** stop that from happening, but I don't know for sure because I don't know how the code works for that part.
