Maybe you should stop being offended when there is no reason to be. I'm asking why you would be willing to sacrifice fixes over mariadb and you seem to be offended regardless of what I say.

when I did the apt command for installing mariadb it starts with mysql im under the assumption they are one in the same

MariaDB is a fork of MySQL so the original base is the same but MariaDB is very different from MySQL as a whole nowadays, and will be more so eventually.

Just a simple thing as using the `mysql` command won't work with MariaDB in the future, you'll have to use `mariadb` instead. That means a core change to support, and there are no plans to do that as far as I know.
