ok so I will remote in to my server, go root, but at which point do I open my hiedi, do I have to actually start the auth/world servers first for it to be able to see the db?

None of that. you don't even need the ac server running to connect to your database

exactly.

You may need to change your sql server setting on linux to allow for remote connections. There are a billion guides for that

Another "dirtier" way of getting at your server components is to install webmin onn the server at least temporarily...
