following the instructions as-written puts something in some wrong folder

I had the same problem and fixed it by editing the script that acore.sh is launching
Might not be the best way tho
Either change the compile directory to have binaries in /env/dist or either look at AC_BINPATH_FULL env var, might be it to change

`apps/installer/includes/functions.sh` > `inst_simple_restarter` will help you understand

so like, following the instructions as written gives me `azerothcore` with the source all in, and `azeroth-server` with the built binaries. Also the instructions say
> This will create an azerothcore-wotlk directory containing the AC source files.
which is just wrong. Something funky here.

Yes you can move binaries to the correct folder acore.sh is using but you will need to do that everytime you re-compile

So just change the path when you cmake it will be easier
