I had the same problem and fixed it by editing the script that acore.sh is launching
Might not be the best way tho
Either change the compile directory to have binaries in /env/dist or either look at AC_BINPATH_FULL env var, might be it to change

so like, following the instructions as written gives me `azerothcore` with the source all in, and `azeroth-server` with the built binaries. Also the instructions say

which is just wrong. Something funky here.

Yea I had the same issue couple days ago
You might want to make a PR to fix the doc or the scripts
I wanted to do it but dont have much time

cancelled the compile and copied the contents of azeroth-server into env/dist and got further

Yes you can move binaries to the correct folder acore.sh is using but you will need to do that everytime you re-compile
