what would be the easiest way to increase the amount of ore/herbs dropped from mining/herbing nodes? i tried worldserver.conf referenced and group amounts but they don't seem to affect it. do i need to edit each node type separately in the database?

That's because it is not a quest item and in the same Group as another item.
You can't have a total chance > 100 per group.
