[Archive] [Preview] The Battlegrounds in Alpha - Brougt back to retail!
Quote:Alpha Battleground brought back to retail - Preview
Hello, and thanks for clicking on this thread :]
Lately, i've been experimenting with patching all kinds of stuff into the game, and succesfully, i've patched the old, still-developed battlegrounds from alpha back in retail.
The land known as 'Kalidar' from the famous topic "#noggaholic: Why WoW is a bad game, reason #8", it is, and i'm bringing some screenies for the upcoming download :]
Link: #nogg-aholic: Why WoW is a bad game, reason #8
What originally was planned to be Arathi Basin;

Probably the alpha Alterac Valley;

A last, but mysterious battleground is found;

Blizzard even added some text, so we can see, that it's only a test:

I've also brougt some minimap screenies of the land:

Thanks for reading.
Look forward for the upcoming download :] (Just have some NoggIt problems atm; 2 of the 3 isn't accessible on live server yet, and need to edit a path to 'em)

Quote:I've made a similar thread about Kalidar last year, providing ADTs, which can still be found
here.
Those old Kalidar maps are part of some if not the most unknown / undocumented terrain files in wow's history. To my knowledge they were never made available for testing, and were removed from the client in some of the earliest beta builds.
When releasing them, I intentionally made the description & screenshots of the map vague enought not only to let but to strongly encourage people testing/exploring it out themselves. It is the main reason why I didn't provide them in a ready to use MPQ / pre-swapped terrain / 'pachted' with ramps for easy access...
What's the point of exploration if it doesn't require any effort / involvement ?
Do whatever you want, but if I were you, I'd think twice before making those maps so easy to get to for everyone that the very few 'secrets' they keep will be gone forever.

Quote:@MoD, i couldn't agree more.
Right now, i've not placed the files outside the borders of Azeroth for example, but inside RazorfenKraul, so at the recent point, you need to climb out of Rfk. It's my intention to make it hard to reach (as hard as possible), because, as you say, what's the point of exploration if it doesn't require any effort?
If you got a better idea 'bout where to place it, please tell me :]

Quote: I am trying to figure out how the hell did you convert these from alpha to retail, the MPQs aren't packed the same way. . . I didn't event bother getting in kalidar altough i had seen MoD's post before because i can't do it myself. Converting alpha files to retail is something so myterious to me yet and most model editors i think :d

Quote:EDIT:
The file is now possible to download! It's not edited tho, so you'll need a GM private server to see all the different places.
Here's my guide.
1) Go to Echelonedwow.net and create an user.
2) Write Set realmlist logon.echelonedwow.net in your realmlist
3) Login with your account
4) When you're in, pick Terra or Helion, not Avari
5) Type the command .rec p RazorfenKraul
6) After that, type .ch fly
7) Fly out of the instance, and you'll be able to see it.
This is possible to do on Live Server, but as said before, you'll only be able to see "the mysterious battleground", and only with Wallclimbing + if you're skilled in gettin' out of Rfk
It's Right Here! :]
