Quote: I've model-edited a few times in the distant past, but that was back before 3.0 and I don't know how much has changed since.

I'm trying to replace the default cursor with one that I create. I'm using an mpq editor (Ladik's) and I located the default cursor file (C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data\enUS\locale-enUS.MPQ\Interface\CURSOR\Point.blp). So, yay for me.

But now what do I do? I also downloaded a blp viewer/converter (XnView), and I also have irfanview & photoshop, but I have no idea what to do next. I tried dragging and dropping, and of course that doesn't work. I don't know what the dimensions or size of the original cursor are. Ideally I'd like to extract the blp from the mpq, convert it to tga, edit the tga, convert back to blp, and put it back into the mpq. But I don't suppose mpqs work this simply.

I've backed up the original mpq, in case I do something stupid, so I don't mind going through some trial and error to get the image right. I just don't know how to start trialing, as it were. Any help is much appreciated!

Quote: You'd want to put it into a numbered patch mpq- patches overwrite the base MPQs.

Quote: explaining what pink said, you have to make a new .mpq with the same file path (Interface\CURSOR\Point.blp) with the new "point.blp" saved inside it. then name the .mpq "Patch-2.mpq" or any number instead of two. So basically:

1. Click File-> "Make new MPQ"

2. Click File-> "Add new file"

3. find the file you want to add (point.blp in this case)

4. Add it as "Interface\CURSOR\point.blp" NOT just "point.blp"

5. Click File-> "Save As"

6. Save the .MPQ in "EnUS" as "Patch-2.MPQ"

Should be good [Image: biggrin.png]

if you use version >13914 (14007) or play on official blizzard servers, you can't do it safe.

if you use private server, or you want to do it regardless of ban risk, I can tell you what you must do.
