maybe if you're doing some blender, try keeping a single mesh of the swapped model in it so it might work, a little trick i use for some m2. Strange things of Legion.

try first to swap an wmo that came from a newer build and is not on live
wait for a new patch find a fully new wmo
try to swap and check if the problem is in the wmo or the game
