So I am planning on using a repack (either WOTLK or MOP) to make a server on my home network for myself, my wife, and my son mainly. At most I would have 5 people on there. Does anyone out there have a idea for the stats I would need on my computer that is being used as the server? I am rather low on the money set aside for entertainment so having a monthly server cost would not be my preference.

I too am wondering this, I have just started to get into Cataclysm repacks and EmuCoach was recommended to me as the best 4.3.4 repack so I wanted to set it up as a LAN type server for me and a few gaming buddies, my issue is, I struggle to run a WOTLK server at an acceptable rate and I have a decent computer with 8gb RAM, so if I struggle with WOTLK, I will definitely struggle with CATA or MOP. Are there any specific requirement or ways I should setup a CATA server so it runs smoothly and not laggy. Thank you so much in advance.

make sure the server is connected via LAN and not wifi, that may help a lot with "lag" / sync

I run cata 4.3.4 v10.1 on an old winblows 7 machine with 8gb ram, runs just fine. MoP I wouldnt think would require any different specs.

I'd recommend at least a 4-core 3.0+Ghz (AMD should be inexpensive) or faster and 8GB RAM. I have a little "server" PC I use for servers that used to have these specs and it ran fine with at least 4 people on. I've since upgraded it to an AMD 6-core 3.4Ghz with 16GB RAM.
