I'm not familiar with the coding side of things, but the major cities for example have stuff hard coded in the client and modding them isn't easy (at least not easy or obvious to me).
Wall suggested that I attempt modding some stuff in Blender and save it as a whole.bew WMO etc, but that still may not mean that there's stuff embedded into parts of the WMO that have code linked back to the client. I'm not that far ahead yet.
For example, I went into Blender, and removed the gates from the "keep" / "castle" that has the entrance to the unused "Stormwind prisons" instance. The first attempt at removing the gates in the file just crashed the game completely. According to Wall, it's cause the WMO was missing a chunk of code that the client was looking for that was no longer there. He did have a version of Stormwind that had the gates removed many years ago but those files were long lost he said.
What exactly are you trying to find edit?

The Alpha Ironforge is almost completely different from the Vanilla version you know except for the actual entrance and some key areas. The city is really big with different levels, and areas and so on. If you place it on a map, and load it in game, it loads up and says you're in Ironforge etc. There's certain IDs the big cities etc have tied into the DBC files as well as hard coded into the client. I haven't figured that stuff out yet myself and I haven't had that much time lately due to my schedule to get back to this end of the work

Interesting. I’ve yet to explore all the ins and outs of the unexplored maps, but we will def be adding content to those areas as we continue to develop our project.
I’m excited to use the maps that MTL’s created within the existing zones too, tbh. It’s going to add so much more for our players to enjoy.

That's because you have to use the 010 hex editor with specific templates to mod the water.
Water in WotLK and Vanilla have different code. So you need to adjust the code in the WMO to be back ported. I'm away from home currently, but I'll get the names of the templates. They also have to be done in a specific order

Thank you, sadly I got my laptop for repair one week ago, but I learned a lot about modifying the WMO's, and with enough time I guess it's not too hard for modify and make incredible capitals for Vanilla WoW.
I will look for that 010 hex editor.

Once I get a chance, I'll let you know what templates you have to use to backport the WMOs.
