There is also a mock addon that does this. I use it for all my custom items. I don't remember the name of it I'll get it for you when I get home. But it auto fills the red ? Marks with the actual icon

I made a tool under the release section of this discord, that will automatically generate item.dbc entries from your item_template database.
However, for development purposes, I would instead use a patched exe so you don't really need item.dbc. Then you can run the item_template to item.dbc script once you're ready to push a patch to players.
That's how I do it anyway.
