Robin seemed convinced for a while that it didn't exist, we chatted about it in DMs. It's also not one exploit, but a few holes in the client.

Would make sense if Asc had no intent of using it, so was never looked into in the first place by Asc RE team

I don't follow other servers so I don't know how long it had been used, but Warmane are the only server to publicly use it. People digging into what they were doing is how it started to become more mainstream.

The fact RCE's exist makes it unlikely I will ever touch one of these servers again, not that I was going to in the first place. It's ironic because Blizzard always advertised that connecting to a private server could be dangerous, and for well over a decade everyone would say what nonsense that was.

honestly i'd worry more about running any custom server launcher than about someone using that RCE in any malicious way

Back in the days rs private servers had silent java driveby's, I guess scummy people will always find a way if they really want to.
