UK is just as bad as America now in terms of studying costs. It doesn't seem that bad on the face of it (9.5k per year) but the interest rates are insane

I should correct myself -- England is just as bad as America. Scotland get free university education, and Wales only pay £3k. Also a Welshman or a Scotsman can study in England with the same benefit, whereas if an Englishman goes to Scotland or Wales they pay the full amount.
