There is not much of a difference anyway when fetching data. If you get a u32, and then interpret it as an i32, the sign will be correct.

When dealing with networked data I'm fairly sure this is handled by TCP. The protocol specifies big endian on the wire, which also means when receiving you can always check the endianess of your own system and know if you need to convert.
This would mean that when handling that data using DataStore which is specifically used for networking, you can make such an assumption without having to worry about the difference.
Although as you said, without any such assurance, you would have to worry about it.
