They use some strange logic. That part is hard to RE so I took it from Cata. So it might be outdated.
They sort against certain value from M2Batch, which you need to put to View Space(I think)
It's been a while since I looked at it last time, so I don't remember the specifics. `centerBoneIndex` and `sortCenterPosition` and `priorityPlane` are used for sure

The WotLK is fucked, bcuz technically the meshes there are not transparent, so engine shouldn't sort them. But int the same time they do not write to Z-Buffer. Which I think makes them being sorted

Luckily I am not trying to make a 1:1 decompilation effort.
For me good enough is, if it works the same. No matter what math plays have to go around
