haven't dived into it myself, but it's for sure interesting.
i am not 100% sure how much improvement you get by switchting the graphics api.
from what robin wrote (and i have the same feeling as well... my pc is not weak lol) the biggest bottleneck is the horribly cpu bottle necked code on the 335a client... refactoring the worst function would give you a huge boost, like robin already demonstrated in a screenshot of his (ascension i think) client

It checks if the player is within `m_bounds` and then gets the distance to the closest edges (the weird string blob you saw in the client) for later using it for `Light.dbc` params.
