To be honest, I'd rather a powerful MMO like WoW hit the open source market, I mean... it's all there, it's just scattered here, there and everywhere, in small tools, MPQ editors have the algorithms for opening, closing, extracting from, and adding to MPQ archives, Noggit programs have the ability of parsing and opening all in place BLPs, M2s, WMOs, ADTs, etc, if someone had the time, effort, and patience to do it, and did do it, they could combine all this together and they'd have a open source implementation of the WoW client.
