It's also important to remember the skill of the maintainers of a project. AC might have more users and community support, whereas TC you have more developer support. The TC community isn't for everyone, they can be a bit crass and they won't spoonfeed you, but they have vastly more experience and knowledge.

The main advantage AC has is it's active. Arguably the main disadvantage of AC is it's active lol. Code standards are definitely questionable in a fair few places. From my own experience over the years and talking to people the main issue with TC is the standards for a PR might be _too_ high in some case. It's become stale mainly due to people kind of assuming their PR will get rejected before even opening it.
There's no good reason why some new blood going into a slightly more relaxed TC fork couldn't yield great results.
