Hey, I am completely new to this whole concept of wow modding, I set up a 3.3.5 server and started tinkering. So far ive found a few cool things to mess with, I got a few custom spells up and going, Found how to increase the fall distance required for damage, and made a quest NPC. I realize this is small potatoes to what a lot of you guys are doing, but its mostly just to give you an idea of what ive done.
This morning I went ahead and downloaded the Modding tools off the Cloud storage (cant believe that after all these years this is how Mega gets me on a pro plan) and am looking to see what it takes to get a model that I found online, or maybe even made myself, into the game. Ive done some digging and found out about wow blender studio, which seems to be my best bet, but im unsure on how to even get started with this and a lot of the videos I see are pretty old. Do you have an good tutorials you can point me at, and do you think a project like this is something a beginner should try to take on?

Some of the tutorials are outdate but some still can be of some use. I don't know which modding tools you downloaded. But for grabbing models from new expansions of the game you have CascView and CascExplorer. You will also need a multiconverter and sometimes m2mod (is paired with wbs). Sometimes you may need to remove a few polygons from a model. Sometimes a model might have more than one armor set that can be visible at once and you could separate them into separate .m2s. Depending on which expansion the model is from the more work that is going to have to go into making the model work in game.

I see, I will continue down the path of getting WBS setup. I think i should start with something that should be relatively simple, like a sword, so as to not have to deal with armor sets and overly complex models, or have to make the model for every race to begin with. Thanks for the feedback.

Except helmets and shoulders, armor are just a texture, not mesh

well... I'd say they have different meshes for armor, just those meshes are part of the char models

i mean titi isnt exactly wrong, the mesh on the character, so indeed each armor piece is just a texture in a folder, it doesnt have it's own model for every item like the shoulder and helmets do.

Does the same apply to cloak or back items?
