My only guess is there's some flag or something about showing facial hair through helmets that only manifests at a distance like that. Probably not it, and I am incapable of troubleshooting, but I hope you find a solution.

I neglected to say that is not the helmet issue (my bad). I tested the same helmet with the Goblin from TWoW and he doesn't seems to have that issue.
