Periodic effect expires, and is applied to another target. It doesnt bounce when its cast.

like, in theory i can have the caster have an invisible aura and set its basepoints to the number of bounces and erase the aura when its maxed I guess

if ur pretty against scripting it, you could possibly find the right target option for whenever the periodic spell trigger happens to randomly choose a nearby target and for each bounce have a different spell, where the last one doesnt trigger another
