more like you don't really know what exactly you are doing is the issue
learn how creature visuals work. From models and textures to dbcs
just swapping out the files might work sometimes but only if original model had same amount of textures per instance and you literally replaced old texture with a new one

each model has its own unique uv map. The old and new models just don't match.

and also check out formats
swapping out m2 and skin files but keeping old anim files is crap
u'd rather think of m2, skin and anim files as one complex file split into multiple

because I felt like doing it 2 ways: either make a new patch with db changes as well as making new gnoll with new entry or just replace the old. As you see, the old one doesnt solve the prob

It's just two different textures with different arrangement of elements. The fastest way is to fit the new elements into the same places as the old ones in photoshop.

Or a more difficult option, open the model in a 3d editor and change the uv map to a new texture.
