there's one patch flying around to bypass item.dbc entirely but it messes up material sounds, but i understood that conversation as relying on a pre-rendered item.dbc somehow

as in having virtual server items that uses queries to send the "stats" for those fake items, but the only way i know of to get visuals fully working with that is having a pre-rendered itemdisplayinfo reference in item.dbc
