I completely understand that, I’m unfortunately not that well versed to build a parser. I do have access to the DBC files though, is there a tutorial or a point in the right direction to do it from that?

map.dbc references map folder name, from that you get the wdt which references adts, from adts you get terrain textures and model placements, from model placements you get model textures etc

I don't think it's feasible to get every file by hand if no list file exists. Automating it shouldnt be hard, it's something I've wanted to do for a while but never had the need / motivation. If you are familiar with your own patch structure you can target specific files from specific dbcs

Its mostly time consuming. In wotlk everything is referenced by filename. So one would need to have a parser of dbcs, m2 files, wmos etc to collect all filename references.

And when building a parser, youd need to take into account internal logic of parsing here and there

I think it's pretty stupid to expect anything from removing the list file, it's always only been obfuscation
