mysql has functions and reserved keywords (they will break query) so if u are not sure simply wrap it in backticks

I'd guess it's because exp is a field in your tables, and it's probably recognizing it as one of them, and turning it white, rather than leaving it blue. "expansion" is also a field somewhere in that database, I'd assume.
