There are ways to do intelligent dynamic batching without having to rebuild anything. The dev for my shader framework outlined how to do it, but it's a pain to do. Something about using index buffers, using vertex data as a psuedo-index for models in those buffers, and only rebuilding parts of it when objects are spawned/removed as needed
