but as ogre is a creature model, it doesn't have dynamic geosets, idk about your retail version

That's interesting. How do geosets affect draw calls? Are the .m2 models batched into one by the renderer, or is it just rendered separately and is for placing skinned meshes

They are attached to the character model and then it is rendered together with all its components
