anyone able to give me a hint here? I'm trying to do custom character select screens. Right now I've got UI_Orc.m2 stripped down with 010 so that only the player model remains, then I've got a custom scene layered behind it that displays fine if I hide the player model layer. Trouble is I can't figure out how to get rid of the black background behind the player model that is covering my custom scene. 3.3.5 client btw

Not sure if samone answered or not, but here's what I learned from my wirk with spells.

If you find the spell in spell_script_names, then it has a linked script in core which handles the spell's behaviour, at least to a degree. It doesn't matter what effects the spall has, and yes it can have effects set up in DBC which are then modified or added on by the script. Any spell can potentialy by linked to a core script through this table. Example would be a priest holy nova iirc, because the spell does both heal friendly ans damage enemy, which you can't really set up properly just through DBC. So the spell you cast does a half of the effect, and the core script then triggers a second spell which does the other half of the effect at the same time.

Then there are spells with script effect and dummy efect. If those spells don't have core script linked, then you can use the spell_scripts table to script an effect for them. It's... a discount version of Smart Scripts is probably the best description. I use such spells for quests.

For example I want player to use an item near three places. So I make a custom script spell with unique spellfocus and slap in on the item. I spawn three invisible spellfocus objects in the places i need player to use the item.

The quest says to player "use object" but in reality, on backend it wants him to kill a dummy npc three times. When the player casts the spell through the item, the script from spell_scripts table fires and calls killcredit for the dummy NPC for the player, effectively fulfilling the requirement to use item for the quest.
