the header you just read from a blizzard version of the same dbc and change one number at a specific offset, footer is just a long list of strings with null bytes between them

think your biggest concern will be build times, but that's more a problem with (as i understand this) building dbc data on your server in the first place during development

there is a pretty annoying overhead with serializing dbc data since there's so much of it, for tswow it was bad enough for us to re-design our entire project to avoid serialization in the first place

but you could prolly make use of selective builds in your case and actually check what tables change when deploying
