"encrypted" data (in wotlk) means that the mpq listfile has been removed, so what you need is to figure out what all the filenames are. This is non-trivial if you're a beginner, and people generally don't share their tools for it

some pointers is to look into is dbc, m2 and wmo string harvesting as that will give you the vast majority of filenames present in any mpq

by googling for a long time I was able to find an extractor https://github.com/WoW-Tools/CASCExplorer/releases with which the encrypted data can be read and extracted and can then create an mpq. so I still have retail wow installed, I can read everything from there.
