As I understand it- it's the WoW client that needs the cert, and it has to be by Domain Name not IP address... which is why people are using LetsEncrypt to create the certificates for their server that the client will accept.,, and that also requires (I believe), a launcher like Arctium, to patch the server's public cert into the WoW client...

no, arctium doesnt patch anything related to certificates for public servers, it only checks that you have one to make it easier for users to find what they have done wrong in their setup

but that check did indeed become a source of confusion and is where the whole "arctium requires certificate to use" misconception came from
